Joan Fontcuberta's work explores the conditions of truth in visual information. His projects subvert the canonic function of photographs as documents in history, science and mass communication. Sophisticated narrative constructions provide the pretext to debate issues such as credibility, veracity or authenticity from epistemological and political perspectives. A special focus is done on "mockumentary" as criticism, parody and deconstruction of traditional documentary in both film and still photography. As a common strategy images deal with irony and humour and are pushed to conspire to fill the no man's land between reality and falsehood.

Since the early 70's Joan Fontcuberta (*1955) has been dealing as a visual artist and a photographer, together with a wide range of criticism, theoretical, curatorial and educational activity. Along projects such as Herbarium (1985), Fauna (1988), Sputnik (1997) and Deconstructing Osama (2007) he outlines the conßict between nature, technology and politics.
