Lecture: "PHotoEspaña"

PHotoEspaña is an international festival of photography and visual arts that started in Madrid in 1998. Every year during June and July the City of Madrid is filled with photography. Rubio will talk about how a private company in collaboration with many public and private institutions give this festival a unique structure. Different activities and projects and the photographers' ways of participation, such as in the portfolio review, workshops and the night of photography will be highlighted.

Oliva Maria Rubio is an art historian, curator and writer. She was General
Curator of PHotoEspaña (PHE), (2001-2003), where she programmed around 60 exhibitions. She has been in numerous juries on art and photography such as the Committee of Visual Arts "Culture 2000 programme" European Commission, Culture, Audiovisual Policy and Sport, Brussels; the Purchasing Committee at Fonds National d'Art Contemporain (FNAC), Paris 2004-2006; and an artistic advisor of the Prix de Photography at Fondation HSBC pour la Photographie, Paris, 2005.
Some of her exhibitions include Kimsooja's Crystal Palace installation in collaboration with the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid; Andres Serrano: Salt on the wound, 2006; Dorothea Lange, 2009 and L·szlÛ Moholy-Nagy, Art of Light, 2010. Oliva Mar"a Rubio is also the author of La mirada interior. El surrealismo y la pintura (Madrid, Tecnos, 1994).

The lecture will be held in Spanish with simultaneous translation in German.
