b.eldagsen Boris Eldagsen, photo media artist

Lecture: "Style sucks"
Friday, June 11th, 7 p.m. at the ART FOYER of the DZ BANK [KUNSTSAMMLUNG],
Platz der Republik, 60265 Frankfurt, Entrance: Cityhaus 1, Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage

Taking their own work as an example, Boris Eldagsen (Germany) and Natascha Stellmach (Australia) show that using few materials but with a clear idea you can create strong statements. Away from representation, from surfaces, decoration, style and glamour - in favor of a deeper definition of what it means to be human.

After the lecture, Natascha Stellmach will sign copies of her art books The Book of Back and It is Black in Here.

The lectures will be held in English and German.

Workshop - Experimental photography - “No-budget staged photography”
Saturday and Sunday, June 12th and 13th, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., at the FFF Office, Weißfrauenstrasse 1, 60311 Frankfurt

What does an artist need to stage a strong image?
Expensive equipment? Good studio lighting? Assistants? Models? Set designers? Make-up pros? None of them.
All you need is a good eye, intuition and an understanding of the theme in question. This is a workshop about content. And to depict them all you need is a camera.
What Berlin-based photo media artist Boris Eldagsen has developed in the course of a 20-year career is something he himself calls ëno-budget staged photography'. At the Summer Academy, he offers an insight into how he works and shows what abilities you need to work successfully with what you have available. In the course of the workshop the participants will learn to break the conventional rules, forget the compulsions of technology and produce images that perhaps never thought were possible. Goodbye Studio! Farewell Photoshop!

Boris Eldagsen's work revolves around the desire for redemption, from the metaphysical to the erotic. In a process that is as conceptual as it is sensory in thrust, Eldagsen creates photographs, videos and installations, as multivalent, poetic and disturbing commentaries on human existence.
His works have been on show, among others, in Fridericianum Kassel, Haus der Photographie Deichtorhallen Hamburg, CCP Melbourne, ACP Sydney, F-Stop Leipzig, EMAF Osnabr¸ck, Videonale Bonn, Edinburgh Art Festival, Athens Video Art Festival, Media Forum Moscow, Media Art Biennale Wroclaw, Biennale Le Havre and the Biennial of Electronic Arts Perth.
Eldagsen (*1970) studied Philosophy and the Applied Arts in Mainz, Cologen, Prague and Hyderabad (India). He teaches at the Victorian College of the Arts & Music / Melbourne and at the Photography Studies College Melbourne. He lives and works in Berlin and Melbourne (Australia).
Eldagsen is represented by Galerie Wagner + Partner Berlin.

The workshop will be held in German.
