r.larmann Ralph Larmann, concert and events photograph

Lecture: "Concert and events photography"
Wednesday, June 16th, 7 p.m. at the MUSEUM FÜR ANGEWANDTE KUNST, Schaumainkai 17, 60594 Frankfurt

Ralph Larmann will explain his approach taking as his example selected works of classical photography and 360∞ panorama photographs that, for example, he took for the 360∞ tour by Irish band U2 or of the NOBEL PRIZE Banquet in 2009 in Stockholm. To achieve good concert and event photos you not only need the right equipment, but have ideas, be creative in how you work with the artists and those involved in a production, learn to anticipate situations in advance, find the right angle, and not least understand the business and have a good feel for how best to treat the artists and everyone along. And the photos must capture the mood for the viewer, recreating the experience for him.

Ralph Larmann (*1963), studied Percussion with a focus on Popular Music at the Rotterdam Conservatory, before turning as of 1991 mainly to photography and journalism. Since 1992, Ralph Larmann has designed and produced high-quality picture books, concert brochures and exhibition catalogs for companies and a wide range of artists from the world of Rock, Pop and classical music; since 2000 he has run his own full-service firm, the Ralph Larmann Company. As a freelance photographer and author he prepared elaborate photo- and text documentations for companies, artists, light designers and magazines, both nationally and internationally. Since 1989, Ralph Larmann has captured countless stars, events and productions in fascinating images. He most recently created an extensive photo-documentation for U2 covering some of the concerts on the 360∞ tour. In his STAGE DESIGN picture book, which came out in September 2007 in more than 120 different countries, he presents productions, among others from the worlds of theater, opera, musicals, concert tours & partly from an angle the spectators will never experience.

The lecture will be held in German.
