Lecture: "The invisible cities"
Wednesday, September 8th, 7 p.m. at the MUSEUM FÜR ANGEWANDTE KUNST,
Schaumainkai 17, 60594 Frankfurt
This lecture will focus on the "Palermo Project" and photographs of "dreamt architecture". The "Palermo Project" is a photographic portrait of the capital of Sicily that elegantly sidesteps all cliches of South Italy. The almost abstract photographs highlight the city's identity without simply depicting the people, streets and houses in the idiom of classical documentation. The 24-part series of images won the Premio Unesco Trapani per l¥Arte. It was exhibited in Palermo and at the Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, Wiesbaden. Further shows are being planned.
Gabrielle Strijewski studied Painting and Graphic Design at the Universities of Applied Sciences Hanover and Cologne. Since the early 1990s she has mainly concentrated on photography. Her works have been shown internationally in galleries and museums in Paris, Angers, Palermo, Tokyo, Barcelona, Hamburg, and Frankfurt. In 1997, Fotografie Forum Frankfurt presented her Am Anfang ging ich barfuß durch das Gras zum ßuß exhibition. In 2008, Das Palermo-Projekt with texts by Wilfried Wiegand, Eva Linhart and Sicilian photographer Letizia Battaglia was brought out by Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg, 2008.
Gabrielle Strijewski lives in Frankfurt/Main.
The lecture will be held in German.
