Frank Röth,
staff photographer, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ)
Workshop & Portrait: "The journalistic portrait"
Saturday and Sunday, September 25th and 26th, 10 a.m. & 6 p.m.,
at the FFF Office, Weißfrauenstrasse 1, 60311 Frankfurt
Portrait photos in newspapers have to capture a person in the shortest time conceivable and, despite ambient light conditions, present them in the local setting. The workshop's goal is to play through the different possible approaches that enable a person's personality to be captures in an image and, ideally, reference the setting, too.
Frank Röth (*1968) trained in a/v design in Stuttgart. He has worked as a press photographer since 1989, among other things freelancing for "Südhessische Post", and then working as the staff photographer for the English-language "Prognosis Weekly" in Prague. Since the early 1990s, he has been exhibiting work inside and outside Germany, among others in Prague and recently in Berlin at Galerie Taube, with a show entitled Von Prag nach Paris. In 1995, he started freelancing for FAZ and became a staff photographer there in 1996. The last 15 years have seen him work for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, among other things in South Africa, Uganda, Russia, Egypt and Uzbekistan. His pictures of the war in Georgia won an award at the UNICEF Photo of the Year competition 2008.
The workshop will be held in German.
