Lecture: "Slow Media"

More frequently the term "slow journalism" is used to describe an increasing number of documentary photographers, who are developing new strategies to offer their projects to the public. The Rotterdam based multi-media and photography organisation, Paradox has supported and produced such exhibition concepts. Iris Sikking will discuss the use of multimedia in photographic arts based projects, in particular interaction between different disciplines (photography, film and audio) as well as platforms (exhibitions, websites, books, DVDs and educational programs). Some Past projects include: Play, Carel van Hees, 2001, Rotterdam/Ludwigshafen, Go No Go, Ad van Denderen, 2003 Amsterdam/Vienna/Rennes/Paris/Sofia, Why Mister, Why?, Geert van Kesteren, 2005, Rotterdam/Arles/Krakow/Mannheim.

Iris Sikking (*1968) is photo-historian and curator. Before her career in the photographic field took off, she worked as freelance editor on documentaries for Dutch film and television. After finishing her Masters in Photographic Studies (University of Leiden) she turned her thesis into the exhibition entitled BABY: Picturing the Ideal Human 1840s-Now. This was presented in the Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam and in the National Media Museum, Bradford, UK. As producer at Paradox she was responsible for the multi-platform-project The Last Days of Shishmaref by Dana Lixenberg. Currently she is conducting research for the Slow Journalism project on documentary strategies and Angry (Young Men),
a group exhibition on radicalized youngsters. She is also the started the Icon Foundation, dedicated to the analysis and research of photography in all genres.
